Florence at Colchester proms
Florence has run a prom to Colchester United's football stadium on United Way – a July evening, roof down, with time built in for photographs before the drive. Stadium proms are the pattern across north Essex, and they are exactly the sort of arrival where a small mint green classic stands out against a queue of white stretch limousines at the same entrance.
She is a Nissan Figaro soft-top – cream leather, chrome, and a dashboard from another decade. She seats three, or two in real comfort, and the front passenger seat lifts out altogether if a long dress needs the room. She is not a limousine and does not try to be one; she is the car people photograph.
If you have found this page looking for a prom car rather than a wedding car, the answer is yes, and the price is lower: £200, including VAT.
Who drives, and why that matters
John Stanley drives every booking himself. He is a qualified teacher and holds an Enhanced DBS certificate, issued by the Disclosure and Barring Service – the same level of check required to work with children in a school. You are very welcome to see it before you book.
For a wedding that is a pleasant detail. For a prom it is rather the point: your son or daughter is getting into a car with someone you have not met, on an evening when you are not there. There is one car and one driver here, and the driver is the man who answers the phone. Nothing is handed off to whoever happens to be free that night.
What £200 gets you
Prom hire is £200, and that is the whole price – it includes VAT, and there is nothing added afterwards. A £50 deposit secures the date and the balance is due before the evening.
- John driving, in a suit, shirt and tie
- Arrival about half an hour early, so nobody is waiting on the car
- Time for photographs on the drive before you leave – this is the part parents remember
- Collection from home and the run to the prom
- The roof down if the weather allows, decided on the night rather than booked in advance
- A drive round first, if there is time and that is what is wanted

Getting to Colchester
Bedfield to Colchester is around 40 miles, an hour or so via the A12. Colchester and the surrounding villages – Dedham, Wivenhoe, Frating, West Bergholt, Marks Tey – are part of our standard coverage with no travel supplement. Anything further into Essex is still worth an ask; we have said yes before.
Why a Figaro rather than a limousine
Florence is a Nissan Figaro – a genuine period soft-top in mint green, with cream leather, chrome and a dashboard from another decade. She seats three, or two in real comfort, and the front passenger seat lifts out altogether if a long dress needs the room.
She is small, and she is not pretending otherwise. If the point of the evening is to arrive with eleven friends, a limousine is the right call and we will say so. If the point is to arrive in something nobody else has, that photographs beautifully and that everyone remembers, that is what Florence is for. Hollie's mother put it better than we can: “Her friends all thought that Florence was super cute! The perfect car!”

What parents say about Florence
"We booked Florence and John for our daughter's Year 11 prom. Florence is immaculately turned out and beautiful. The service we received was fabulous, John was so quick to respond and confirm all details as we sent them, and very reasonably priced. He also arrived early to ensure the girls got to have a drive round before arriving at the prom. Florence and John made the day so magical for the girls and I cannot recommend him highly enough."

When to book
Proms cluster into the last two weeks of June and the first week of July, which means a handful of Thursdays and Fridays carry most of the season. Those dates tend to be taken during February and March, so it is worth asking early even if the tickets are not out yet. There is one car, so once a date is gone it is gone.
Prom questions
How much does prom car hire cost?
£200, including VAT. That is the whole price – there is no travel supplement inside our normal area and nothing added afterwards. A £50 deposit secures the date.
Who will be driving?
John Stanley, every time. He is a qualified teacher and holds an Enhanced DBS certificate issued by the Disclosure and Barring Service. He drives in a suit, shirt and tie, and you are welcome to see the certificate before you book.
Do you cover Colchester?
Yes. Colchester is inside the area we cover as standard, with no travel supplement.
How many people can Florence carry?
Three, or two in real comfort. The front passenger seat lifts out altogether if a long dress needs the room. She is a small classic car rather than a limousine, so she suits one or two arriving in style rather than a whole group.
Can we have the roof down?
Yes, if the weather allows. It is decided on the night rather than booked in advance. Hollie's prom at Norwich City's stadium was driven on one of the hottest evenings of the year with the roof down, and she arrived cool with her hair still perfect.
How far in advance should we book?
Proms fall into the last two weeks of June and the first week of July, so a handful of dates carry the whole season and they tend to go during February and March. There is one car, so once a date is taken it is gone.
Weddings in Colchester too
Florence covers north Essex weddings as well, from £250, out to the Dedham Vale. Wedding car hire in Colchester.
