Florence took Jessica and Imogen to their Year 11 prom at Sawston Village College, on New Road just south of Cambridge. John arrived early enough that the girls had a drive round the village before pulling up at the school, which was not in the plan but was easily the best part of the evening.
Their mother's account is on this page below, and the line worth repeating is “immaculately turned out and beautiful”. Florence is a period Nissan Figaro soft-top in mint green, with cream leather and chrome. She seats three, or two in real comfort, and the front passenger seat lifts out if a long dress needs the room.
Cambridge sits at the outer edge of our usual radius, so we take a limited number of Cambridgeshire bookings each season. Prom nights are worth asking about early.
Who drives, and why that matters
John Stanley drives every booking himself. He is a qualified teacher and holds an Enhanced DBS certificate, issued by the Disclosure and Barring Service – the same level of check required to work with children in a school. You are very welcome to see it before you book.
For a wedding that is a pleasant detail. For a prom it is rather the point: your son or daughter is getting into a car with someone you have not met, on an evening when you are not there. There is one car and one driver here, and the driver is the man who answers the phone. Nothing is handed off to whoever happens to be free that night.
What £200 gets you
Prom hire is £200, and that is the whole price – it includes VAT, and there is nothing added afterwards. A £50 deposit secures the date and the balance is due before the evening.

Getting to Cambridge
Bedfield to Cambridge is about 60 miles, usually an hour and twenty minutes via the A14. There is no travel supplement, but Cambridge is at the edge of our normal radius and we only take a limited number of Cambridgeshire dates each season – so if your prom is on a popular evening, ask sooner rather than later.
Why a Figaro rather than a limousine
Florence is a Nissan Figaro – a genuine period soft-top in mint green, with cream leather, chrome and a dashboard from another decade. She seats three, or two in real comfort, and the front passenger seat lifts out altogether if a long dress needs the room.
She is small, and she is not pretending otherwise. If the point of the evening is to arrive with eleven friends, a limousine is the right call and we will say so. If the point is to arrive in something nobody else has, that photographs beautifully and that everyone remembers, that is what Florence is for. Hollie's mother put it better than we can: “Her friends all thought that Florence was super cute! The perfect car!”

When to book
Proms cluster into the last two weeks of June and the first week of July, which means a handful of Thursdays and Fridays carry most of the season. Those dates tend to be taken during February and March, so it is worth asking early even if the tickets are not out yet. There is one car, so once a date is gone it is gone.

How much does prom car hire cost?

Who will be driving?
John Stanley, every time. He is a qualified teacher and holds an Enhanced DBS certificate issued by the Disclosure and Barring Service. He drives in a suit, shirt and tie, and you are welcome to see the certificate before you book.
Do you cover Cambridge?
Yes. Cambridge is inside the area we cover as standard, with no travel supplement.
How many people can Florence carry?
Three, or two in real comfort. The front passenger seat lifts out altogether if a long dress needs the room. She is a small classic car rather than a limousine, so she suits one or two arriving in style rather than a whole group.
Can we have the roof down?
Yes, if the weather allows. It is decided on the night rather than booked in advance. Hollie's prom at Norwich City's stadium was driven on one of the hottest evenings of the year with the roof down, and she arrived cool with her hair still perfect.
How far in advance should we book?
Proms fall into the last two weeks of June and the first week of July, so a handful of dates carry the whole season and they tend to go during February and March. There is one car, so once a date is taken it is gone.
