Prom car hire in a classic Nissan Figaro convertible

Every June a few hundred cars are booked across East Anglia to take Year 11s to their proms, and most of them are white stretch limousines that four other people at the same prom have also booked. Florence is not that. She is a Nissan Figaro – a genuine period soft-top in mint green, with cream leather and chrome, and there is nothing else like her turning up that evening.
 
She has done this before. Florence has taken pupils to their prom at Norwich City's stadium, at Colchester's football stadium, and at Sawston Village College outside Cambridge. Those are bookings on record, not a list of places we could get to.
 
The service is simple and it does not change: John drives, he arrives about half an hour early so there is time for photographs at the house, and the roof comes down if the weather allows. £200, including VAT.

John Stanley drives every booking himself. He is a qualified teacher and holds an Enhanced DBS certificate, issued by the Disclosure and Barring Service – the same level of check required to work with children in a school. You are very welcome to see it before you book.
 
For a wedding that is a pleasant detail. For a prom it is rather the point: your son or daughter is getting into a car with someone you have not met, on an evening when you are not there. There is one car and one driver here, and the driver is the man who answers the phone. Nothing is handed off to whoever happens to be free that night.

Prom hire is £200, and that is the whole price – it includes VAT, and there is nothing added afterwards. A £50 deposit secures the date and the balance is due before the evening.

She is small, and she is not pretending otherwise. If the point of the evening is to arrive with eleven friends, a limousine is the right call and we will say so. If the point is to arrive in something nobody else has, that photographs beautifully and that everyone remembers, that is what Florence is for. Proms cluster into the last two weeks of June and the first week of July, which means a handful of Thursdays and Fridays carry most of the season. Those dates tend to be taken during February and March, so it is worth asking early even if the tickets are not out yet. There is one car, so once a date is gone it is gone.

How much does prom car hire cost?
£200, including VAT. That is the whole price – there is no travel supplement inside our normal area and nothing added afterwards. A £50 deposit secures the date.

Who will be driving?
John Stanley, every time. He is a qualified teacher and holds an Enhanced DBS certificate issued by the Disclosure and Barring Service. He drives in a suit, shirt and tie, and you are welcome to see the certificate before you book.

How many people can Florence carry?
Three, or two in real comfort. The front passenger seat lifts out altogether if a long dress needs the room. She is a small classic car rather than a limousine, so she suits one or two arriving in style rather than a whole group.

Can we have the roof down?
Yes, if the weather allows. It is decided on the night rather than booked in advance. Hollie's prom at Norwich City's stadium was driven on one of the hottest evenings of the year with the roof down, and she arrived cool with her hair still perfect.

What time do you arrive?
About half an hour before you need to leave. That is deliberate: it gives everyone time for photographs on the drive while nobody is rushing, which is the part parents tend to remember afterwards.

Can we take photographs before we leave?
Yes, and it is planned for. Arriving early exists so there is time to dress the car and take pictures at the house before the run to the prom.

Can we go the long way round?
Often, yes. At one prom John arrived early enough that the girls had a drive round before pulling up at the venue. Ask when you book and we will build the time in.

How far in advance should we book?
