Prom car hire in Ipswich

Ipswich is the town Florence is called out to most often for weddings, and she is available for proms on the same terms. She is garaged at Bedfield, about 20 miles north, which means she arrives having driven half an hour rather than half a morning.
 
She is a Nissan Figaro – a genuine period soft-top in mint green, with cream leather, chrome and a dashboard from another decade. She seats three, or two in real comfort, and the front passenger seat lifts out altogether if a long dress needs the room. At a prom where most of the arrivals are white stretch limousines hired from the same two or three firms, she is the car people photograph.
 
John drives her himself and arrives about half an hour early, so there is time for pictures on the drive before anyone has to leave. £200, including VAT.

For a wedding that is a pleasant detail. For a prom it is rather the point: your son or daughter is getting into a car with someone you have not met, on an evening when you are not there. There is one car and one driver here, and the driver is the man who answers the phone. Nothing is handed off to whoever happens to be free that night.

Prom hire is £200, and that is the whole price – it includes VAT, and there is nothing added afterwards. A £50 deposit secures the date and the balance is due before the evening.

Florence is based at Bedfield, near Framlingham, roughly 20 miles from the centre of Ipswich – about 35 minutes down the A1120 and A14. Every part of the town, from Kesgrave and Rushmere to Chelmondiston, Pin Mill and Wherstead, is inside our normal coverage with no travel supplement.

She is small, and she is not pretending otherwise. If the point of the evening is to arrive with eleven friends, a limousine is the right call and we will say so. If the point is to arrive in something nobody else has, that photographs beautifully and that everyone remembers, that is what Florence is for. Proms cluster into the last two weeks of June and the first week of July, which means a handful of Thursdays and Fridays carry most of the season. Those dates tend to be taken during February and March, so it is worth asking early even if the tickets are not out yet. There is one car, so once a date is gone it is gone.

How much does prom car hire cost?

Can we have the roof down?
Yes, if the weather allows. It is decided on the night rather than booked in advance. Hollie's prom at Norwich City's stadium was driven on one of the hottest evenings of the year with the roof down, and she arrived cool with her hair still perfect.

How far in advance should we book?
Proms fall into the last two weeks of June and the first week of July, so a handful of dates carry the whole season and they tend to go during February and March. There is one car, so once a date is taken it is gone.
