Florence in Lowestoft

Lowestoft is a seaside wedding town, and a convertible earns its keep here in a way it does not inland. South Beach and the Kirkley Cliff gardens are a short run from most of the churches, Oulton Broad is five minutes the other way, and a car with the roof folded down turns the drive between them into part of the day rather than a gap in it.

Florence is a Nissan Figaro – a genuine period soft-top in mint green, with cream leather, chrome and a dashboard from another decade. She seats three, or two in real comfort with the front passenger seat lifted out to give a dress the room it needs. Against water, flint or a promenade railing she photographs like part of the picture rather than the transport parked at the edge of it.

John drives her himself, in a suit, shirt and tie, and arrives about half an hour early so there is time to dress the car and take photographs before anyone needs to leave. One car, one chauffeur, no handovers. She has air conditioning for a warm day and the roof goes back up in a minute if the North Sea decides otherwise – which on this coast it sometimes will.

Getting to Lowestoft

Bedfield to Lowestoft is about 33 miles, roughly 55 minutes up the A12 through Blythburgh and Wrentham, or across by Halesworth and Beccles. Lowestoft, Oulton Broad, Kirkley, Pakefield, Carlton Colville, Gunton and Corton are all inside our standard coverage with no travel supplement, and we go on up to Beccles and the Waveney villages regularly.
